IVE HAD A CAM CUT FOR MY FARMALL M AND CLOSE AS I CAN GET IS THREE DEGREE WITHIN THE SPECES FROM THE COMPANY THAT DID THE WORK WILL THIS HURT ME ON THE TRACK

it changes youre centerline . is it 3 degrees advanced or retarded. . advanced tightens centerline making power in a tighter rpm range . retarding it does just the opposite. you can vary valve lash to determine which way the cam should go .if tightening up lash helps the motor cam needs more lift and advanced . if loosening gains more torque then youll need to retard camshaft and use lower lift profile . i think thats right from memory .you can double check it with the article on degreeing camshafts found in the back of lunati camshaft catalogue.

Three degrees shouldn't hurt that much,if you adjust your valves with a degree wheel and a dial indicator the first time,you should be able to make up most of the difference by changing your valve lash.Then when you adjust your valves use the settings that you get after you set it with the dial indicator.

Lucky: If the company that did your grinding didnt know the intake timing of the engine before they started grinding you may have a problem with very late intake timing. A stock M didn't begin opening the intake valve until about 30 cranshaft degress after TDC(maybe even more because I haven't looked at the specs I did for the M ten years ago in a while) at the beginning of the intake stroke>>So if they left the timing of the cam the same as it was relative to the engine originally, then when they put the new master grind on the existing lobes they end up adding the additional duration on both the opening and closing sides of each lobe when in reality you need most if not all of the additional duration added to the OPENING side of the intake valves; otherwise you will suck in a charge of air/fuel on the intake stroke and then start to ram it backwards out of the cylinder before the intake valve gets closed.
