I think I would like to try just high dome aluminum pistons and a gas manifold in my 51' G. Any thoughts on this idea ? What's the best source for pistons?

Another G puller said: (quoted from post at 20:22:44 11/20/07) Before taking it apart, try running it on 110 racing fuel. The 110 or even 112 gas and checking the timing should stop the knocking. High comp. G's don't run well on regular gas. It's worth a try before going back into the motor again.

Try a mix, of E85 (ethanol) and 93 octane pump gas. With higher cyl pressure, and an octane rating of atleast 105, but this stuff does the work of 120 octane in pure form,,, depends on what the cyl pressure test results are to know exactly how much to mix,, but with a JD 2 cyl with 180 psi at cranking speed, it would knock, could not shut it off,, that was on 93,, poured in a gallon of E85 right into the gas tank,, drained the carb and fuel lines, fired it up, readjusted the timing and th carb settings, and it runs like a dream. Lugs very hard and still no ping or knock.
Try it! You might discover the power of corn. JMHO,, dont shoot the messenger, K? Have a good one! Chad

I don't know what part of the country you are from but we don't have ethenol in the east and it is not uncommon to have a G withh 230-250 running on 110 cam II gas and no knocking at all.

That will give you about 50-55 horsepower, if you include a flat head in that setup you will bump your horsepower up to the 65-70 range. That is my personal experience.

I run aviation fuel in JD-G with a little Marvel Mystery Oil for lubrication of the valves, since this is a very dry fuel. It runs very well with out the knocking. Mine will not run on pump gas either.

That sounds like a great set up. You can also have the head shaved down a .125 . Good luck.
