O.K. guys, I'm new to the green stuff. I have a 51' G laying all over the shop. First of all, why in the world would you not put the wheel hubs on backwards (clamps on the outside)so you don't have to pull the whole hub to change tires? Second, what is the best source for engine parts to build a puller? This is obviously a styled G, which I hope to keep mostly original....looking. It appears with the enormous crank area simply longer rods would get a lot of compression. I've heard high dome aluminum pistons and a gas manifold will make it compete. Any suggestions ? I know money = horsepower but I'm no millionare. THANKS in advance!

Well first off you can get the wheels off like the other guy said it's not to hard after you have done it once or twice. Apparently someone didn't notice you don't have a big budget. Trust me big G's are fun but spendy and they aren't always maintenance free. You can use a flat head. But why not just make your rods longer to gain compression. Be sure to research and find a good camshaft. Using an LP distributor wouldn't hurt. Or a magneto that does the same thing. They fire only on the compression stroke. Stock mags and distributors fire on compression and exhaust stoke. Yes use a gas manifold and be sure you actually have the correct G carb. If you have the money get someone to work on the head. But make sure he knows something about tractors not race cars there is a difference. Hope this helps just my experience and two sense.

First you will probably want to start off finding an unstyled G head or they call them flatheads. Bore the block out to 6 3/8" and stroke the crank to 9 3/4". For further info call Merfeld Machine at 563-582-8710.

you don't have to take the cast hubs off to get the rims off. put the driving slot of the hub at the top and turn the rim sideways and it will come off.
