Just wanted to put my two cents in. I run a 41' Farmall A here in Michigan in the 2750 class and it can be a blast to run and its an easy tractor to learn how to pull in. as for power, my club allows any motor mods as long as you don't stroke it which is great since you can put oversized super C sleeves in with out any problems. just have fun with it, hey you can even get roller rockers for it. just a thought.

Go out and pull that "A". I have a '45 that is very competitive in the 2500# class. I have run up to 4500# before and have team pulled it in the 9000# team pull class next to a Super C. It has taken me years to get the "right" setup. And yes, I do have a shelf in my living room with numerous trophies etc. that I am very proud of. Don't expect to win all the time, one day you will be right up there, and then the next you will finish dead last. They are a bit tricky to figure out, but they are a lot of fun to pull simply for the crowd response. Every time I pull, it amazes people how good it does. Many people write off this little tractor, but it does put on a nice show. Right now the engine is "mildly built", have wheelie bars installed and a mid bar for hanging weights. Also have shortened the stock drawbar to meet the NATPA regulations. The best part of pulling this little A is the "wow" you hear across the crowd after pulling, that is very enjoyable!
Good luck!

If you want to pull a light Farmall get a C or Super C. 30hp is cheap and easy, and you'll have tires that are tall enough to get ahold of the track.

I have a Farmall A and a Farmall Super A, The Old A has an overbore kit and the Super A was the very last year and has a 123 anyway. The farmall A would always outpull the super A, probably because it didn't have the drag from the hydraulics or anything else. But one weak thing on those old tractors if you are going to pull them is their gears. My A is a 42 and I had to replace 1 bull gear in the rear end after it busted off some teeth, and it is tore down right now as I am having to replace the timing gears in the engine, because they broke too.

The bull gear in the rear end broke after I was pulling some logs and it got to bouncing a little bit, when one was digging in the ground. So just try to keep the rear end from bouncing I guess.

But have fun and good luck , they can be made into very stout little tractors. This thread includes a poll, click here to view in advanced forum view.

My A's head is at the machine shop getting a valve job done and being port and polished.

this tractor was pretty much free from an old timer so i cant complain but i gunna make the best out of it pulling wise, i'll be up against cubs and other As I assume. I need tires and a skid bar though and possibly a roll bar set up This thread includes a poll, click here to view in advanced forum view.

I have a pretty stout Farmall B that pulls pretty good. It putting out right about 30HP with a over bore kit and some head work. I am planning on putting a C153 in a A to see how well I can get it to pull.

There are some real challenges getting the little offset Farmalls to pull well, but it can be done. A better choice if you want build a smaller farmall puller is to find a C or SuperC. Just my oppinion. Kip

try it first before you sell it . i dont think it would out pull a ca allis but it might . so theres alot to be learned about pulling so .pull the farmall a learn all you can from being at the pulls then decide what makes you happy . opinion polls are just somebodies opinion and they may not agree with you personally.so i guess what im trying to say is spending money and not knowing what works on a given track on any given day is frevalous . a pulling tractors that wins for one owner may not win for another .then youll see that driver expertise play an important part . so pull have fun and gain knowledge .
