I"m looking to add a few HP(maybe 5-10) to my 1935 JD A. What kind of camshaft setup would you most recommend. I was told before that if I put a cyclone engine camshaft and rockers that I would add about 5 HP. Anyone agree/disagree w/ that?? Thanks in advance. Vince.

So you"re tug pulling. Good info to have. Don"t know much about it except it"s waaaay different in technique than transfer...

So is this a bone stock motor? If it is, up the compression, that will make an enormous gain in HP.

I disagree...there seems to be no slolid numbers or specs on the original camshafts...send it to Berry Cams, Lester prarie Mn, and tell them exactly what you want to do with your tractor, and all the motor specs you have on it. They will then grind a cam to what will work best on your application. It will be even on both sides, and fresh as new, as most of these tractors have years of wear on them. They told me that they record the numbers on all cams that come in and none are the same from side to side because of wear, and then people want to just switch cams. You won"t be disappointed. You also may want to send the followers along also then everything will be like new.

You can get some good advice here. But you need to let us know more about your engine.Raising your compression would be a good place to start.Carb & Ignition is a must. First time puller?

Yes, that would help if you also bore and stroke. just a cam shaft waste of time and money.

Definitely not a first time puller. I've been pulling for 13 years now. I'm just looking to get a little extra out of my engine. We have 2 weight classes at our one local fair that that tractor could get into. The 4000 lb dead weight class is a joke. You can't have any water in the tires and no weights to get into it. In the 6000lb weight class, I'm pulling against Farmall M's, Late model A's, etc... I'm outclassed as far as power goes. Just 5-10 HP is all I'm looking for. The very last tractor pull I was in a month ago, my front end was just teetering about an inch above the ground. To me, that's weighted perfectly. I managed to make it to the final round of pulls and ran out of power. I was fully revved and slipped the clutch as much as I could got it to keep putting for about 2 seconds and stopped just short of stalling. 5'5". First place was 8'9". Just a few more putts would have been fine. Let me know your expert opinions. Thanks in advance.
