Case head valve unshrouding

I'm looking a head off of a 148ci Case. The intake valves run within a 1/16" of the combustion chamber wall from the bottom of their travel to the top. I know that with automotive heads, 3/16" is a minimium distance for adequate flow. Wall thickness will alow me to unshroud the valves by another 1/16" to 1/8". Is this something to consider with an engine turning 3200 rpm, or is it something the only benefits at higher rpms? Any help is appreciated.

It depends a lot on the original design.. If the shrouding is not in a "Line of sight" from the Intake runner, it won't make much difference.

If fact, a little massaging could help keep the flow coupled to the wall, for even better flow..

That is why the old 396 Chevy breathed so well..the intake charge flowed right down the cylinder wall...(canted valves)...

I believe anytime you can get rid of some shrouding it will help, especially at 3200rpm's
