Hey chad I will post on the IH also to see what one you read first. This H motor I have two different carbs a
356948R92 off the SM and a 52815D off a W9 I believe they both are like you say with the air adj in the top. What # carb should I look for. OR Should I go back to the straight H Manifold and CARB. I have a rebuilt H carb. Is a adjusted H carb better than a SH or M carb that always is pushing to much fuel and cant be adjusted properly. Basicly I have the SH Cam 3 7/16 Fire crators
Shaved head. I want to run in our class A That is stock Rpms, Low gear, No electronic Ign,and low draw bar height. Plus General Farming. what do you think or others. JON

Hey Magman. On my H fitted with a C169 block with C175 kit installed, I used a carb that supposedly came on the 300"s. It is the type with the idle air adjustment screw located on the carb flange where it bolts to the manifold. I had a #27 venturi in it and drilled the jet out 3 sizes bigger. When I was tuning it on the dyno, I found that if I got it to idle good, I had low HP readings no matter what I did with the high speed screw. If it idled poorly I could get alot better HP readings when adjusting the high speed screw. Confused the hell out of me. Tore the carb apart tons of times cleaning, making sure all passages were clear but to no improvement. I then got a top half of another carb (53914-DA) that has the idle screw positioned on an angle downwards close to where that top and bottom of the carb bolts together. I used that same bowl. When I fired her up, it was like a difference between night and day. It was like a whole new tractor. I would look for a top half that has the idle screw positioned on an angle downwards close to where that top and bottom of the carb bolts together.

Let me know if you need more info.

Cheers!

Sid
