Has anyone played around with the venturi size on a Farmall SH-450 style carb? The one in my carb is .845 dia. I was wondering if anyone knows the stock bore size of the different venturi's for the different cubic inch engines. I'm using this on an oversize 350 engine. Thanks in advance.

Do you want absolute max top end HP and will never pull the engine rpms down? Or is mid range torque and low rpm lugging ability important?

I pull 3500-4000 lbs so the low speed lugging is not as critical at this weight. On the dyno, the power still rises as the rpm"s drop.

From what you explained, if Im reading you right, you have the big carb on it? if so, you have the SH-350 venturi. It is the stock venturi for that engine. i would keep it, and rejet the carb if you have not already,,, if you do insist on installing a larger venturi in it, step up to a venturi from an M, it is about .080 larger than you current venturi and will allow a bit more air in there. it will not really give in much of a power increase, but will flaten the torque in the engine out a bit, will be easier to hook the tires to the track at lower rpms, in a case where you have too much power, and burning the tires off, this may help hook it better. Honestly, a rejet of the carb will yield you the best gain, the stock venturi, will yield the best torque and HP in this engine, Much bigger than the M venturi, and youll drop power from having too big of breath taken. Loses the speed through the intake, which affects torque responce upon acceleration. On the dyno, you want tot look for the best 540 power, and the highest peak hp reading when you lug it below 540, lets say 400-375 pto rpm,,, if you have the carb right, you should be able to get about 5-9 more hp past the 540 rpm when you lug it down. It should stay steady on the dyno upon the lug. But, sometimes,,, too much power is too much for the ground speed. Hope this helps,, ChadS

I had the venturi bored to .910 and it seems to run better than ever. However I have yet to verify this on the dyno. I sure wish I had my own dyno!!! Thanks for all the input.

Are you talking HP or torque rise as rpms drop from what we assume is rated pto rpm's?

It was on a M&W dyno. The dial shows horsepower, but it may base that number off the torque.

Unless a conversion chart is used. The dyno pointer only reads HP at 540 or 1000rpm.

Does anyone know when North Brook's Antique Tractor Pull starts? What their schedule is?
