I just put a denny's 4.310 overbore kit in my smta and whould like to know how to get the power out of it. I would like to keep the tractor original looking. I gutted the air cleaner housing and put a K&N air filter in it. Is that going to get enough air to the carb?Do I need a bigger venturi and how do i get more fuel in?

What number K&N did you use in the filter housing? Was it a cone type?? Thanks.

I put a stock M carb on my M. It's 4.375" bore. Haven't fine tuned it but it looks like it'll do the job. That's running with a exhaust tip scoop right off the air horn. One thing I always do is check the venturi and make sure the surface is smooth. You can fill any pits or gouges with JBWeld.

Kevin, is it the full short block you bought from Denny? cam still stock in it? The carb and distributor, and the governor spring will help tremendously. You have to get fuel to the engine, if you can not back the main adjustment screw all the way out, and not be able to flood the engine, you are not getting enough fuel, especially when the engine lugs on the track. drill out the jets, and the bottom 2 holes on the metering stem in the bowl of the carb. You already have a good venturi since it is a SMTA, it is the largest venturi, besides the 6 cyl carbs had. Have you ran a compression test?

Chad, yes the cam is still stock no stroking.I was putting the carb kit in and when I was blowing out the stem(the stem or jet that is sticking straight up when you seperate the bowl from the top) I lost it , what is it called and where can I get on.I haven't done a compression test yet, next week. How much compression should I have around if my headis a 8060 DC?By chance do you know if the max rpm on my serial plate should be 1600rpm? Thanks for the info.
