Someone had some questions about Farmall M's and V-8s sometime back. Here is a pic. Notice the side rails are still there and there is a starter hiding behind one of them. Let me know if you are interested in any other pics.

Most guys around here lengthen the frame rails and stick and automatic between the motor and input shaft. They leave it in what ever gear they want to pull in and shift to auto.

What kind of starter is that on there? Is it one of those small high tourques? Chad

Yes Chad that is a high torque little bitty starter. Would have a very hard time getting a fullsize under that frame rail. It is a high torgue GM used on 6 cylinders in delivery vans much like UPS would use and it bolts to the bellhousing, not the block.

For some reason I can't see the pics. Would anyone be kind enough to email me the V-8/M pics as I am very intersted in building one in the near future. Email address is: clark.weaver@woodgroup.com.

Thanks in advance.

A guy here in town put a 345 IH truck engine in a M last year for the Heritage tractor ride and it made it the whole 120 miles plus. He also had a single front wheel!

Seems the pics come and go. I will post the link to the pics again as there are a few more there.

It is a small block chevy. I think a big block would fit and even clear the radiator. Might loose the top bolt on the side frames though. The flywheel is stock chevy with a chevy clutch. Input shaft is a couple inches longer than original and splined for the standard chevy disk. Farmall funky coupling was replaced with a chain coupling. An adapter made to mate a chevy throughout bearing to the farmall clutch. I made the bellhousing adapter plate out of the stock farmall separator plate. Couldn't find headers I liked at a reasonalbe price so made a set. As far as the noise, it is a pull tractor it is suppose to make noise. Will be a roll cage added in the near future as well as some lighter wheels and hubs if needed to get to weight class. As far as the radiator cooling it, hope so. The total system holds 3 gallons of water so in theory it should cool it. Got to add an electric fan and see what happens. Hasn't been hooked to the sled yet. So far as gearing goes, take the normal speed in any gear and multiply by 4. Wasn't built to pull a bushhog. Pretty sure they do strange things when turned supersonic.

Is that the one you want to get to 4500#?
Having trouble getting back to the pics. Think you could send me close ups of that adjustable hitch. I like the looks of that. Like the zoomies too.

Wow, very nice!. Is that a 350? it sure looks like a tight fit. Did you run into any problems with the gearing?, because I know that V8 will turn a few more rpms than a stock M engine. Love the zoomies, but I'm wondering how you can stand to run it without a good set of hearing protectors.

Hey, I am planning on doing something similar only with a Jaguar V12. Does that stock radiator really handle all those cubes? Also who made your adaptor plate?

Thanks,

Please email me if you get a chance!

Wow! that's about the nicest V8 installation I have seen in a long time.. nice job. What did you use for a flywheel/ clutch combo? Thanks, FD
