I HAVE A 1941 MH 101SR WITH THE 265 CHRYSLER FLATHEAD 6 CYL. I HAVE BORED IT .060, MILLED THE HEAD 125AND CUSTOM GROUND THE CAM. I AM LOOKING TO STROKE THIS ENGINE, CAN ANYONE TELL ME HOW BIG I CAN GO WITH THIS ENGINE AND WHAT KIND OF POWER CAN I EXPECT? IT IS NOW 70 HP AND WOULD LIKE TO SEE 80-100 HP THANKS IN ADVANCE!

FYI -

If you have a MH 101Sr with the 265 Chrysler (is it a Spitfire?) than you have an illegal tractor for any sanctioned event. This may or may not matter to you as it sounds as though you would pull it in "Outlaw" classes. Anyway, a "Spitfire" Chrysler truck engine was over 100HP in stock form, so if you are running open RPM's you should have 100HP plus now!

The MH 101Sr. came originally equipped with the F226 Continental.

YES IT ORIGINALY HAD THE CONTINENTAL. IT DEPENDS ON WHERE YOU PULL THE TRACTOR TO DETERMINE IF IT IS ILLEAGAL OR NOT. IN 38 MASSEY BUILT THE 101 SUPER WITH THE CHRYSLER 218 OR 230 I THINK, BUT THE SUPER AND THE SR ARE THE SAME TRACTOR AND THE TRANSMISION HOUSING FROM THE CHRYSLER,FROM THE 101 SUPER BOLTS RIGHT IN THE FRAME. I AM RUNNING A 251 BLOCK AND HEAD WITH A 265 CRANK, RODS AND PISTONS. THIS MOTOR IS OUT OF A OLIVER 525 COMBINE. NO, IT IS NOT A SPITFIRE, BUT I AM CURENTLY BUILDING A SPITFIRE FOR THIS TRACTOR.

ANYWAY OUR CLUB RULES STATE THAT IF IT BOLTS IN W/O MODIFYING THE FRAME "BOLT RIGHT IN OR REPLACEMET ENGINE OF SAME MANUFACTUER, SAME NO OF CYL," EXAMPLE, FARMALL H CAN USE A 350 ENGINE.AN ALIS WC CAN USE D-17 ENGINE, BECAUSE THEY BOLT IN WITHOUT CHANGING THE FRAME BRACKETS. AS LONG AS YOU HAVE A TRACTOR SERIES LIKE THE 101 SUPER AND THE 101SR THAT A ARE THE SAME FRAME YOU CAN USE THIS ENGINE. WE RUN 10 PERCENT OVER RPMS WITH 4 MPH SPEED LIMIT.

I AM BUYING A SOLID COPPER HEAD GASKET FOR MY MASSEY 101, .020 THICK. I THINK THIS WILL HELP BUILD A LITTLE COMPRESSION IN THE CYL. I HAVE AN UPDRAFT MANIFOLD FOR THE 251-265 CHRYSLER IF YOU ARE INTERESTED.

You can off center grind the crank and gain some and use a rod from the different small blocks and gain some stroke. I have a 230 with some cam work done and it will turn 6000 before it starts to float out. Just turn it up and listen to it scream. Sweet running motors.

Hey Piston! Like the hook picture on the cover! lookin good! I saw another article about some Arkansas pullers, the Duetz tractors are really something, I did not know they made them back then. I have reply to your question about running high rpms, I could be wrong, but here goes. Well, to start I used to drag race before I started pulling tractors. anyway,I was running my chevy 400V8 at about 6500rpm constanlty to make a pass, I had to change the cam, carb, and ignition from points to HEI or electronic, It seems like the more I dialed in the cam, with the ignition timing the better the rpms held steady. I don't know if you have changed the cam for rpms but it may be a place to start. If you called ISKY racing cams, he knows those old flatheads like the back of his hand, he built my cam for low rpm pulling and gained 7 hp, maybe he could help you, he charged me 150.00 for a regrind on my cam. hope that helps.

thanks just happen right be right place, right time. duetz guy my bud. has good pulling tractors. as for can bullet cam. mps. tn. just ground my cam said it was the best grind avable n ow. 240- 540 i think.still running points, with msd.ign.on it. using down draft 1 barrel an mechical pump.seems to be getting enough 115 oct. fuel.have reset time an lifters doing a litte better.getting a litte looser maybe.

Is the engine sputtering at high rpms? Can you run a different carb? I have heard if you used the 1 barrel carb of of a newer slant 6 engine, (like one of of a case combine) the carb is bigger cfms. If I may ask, what kind of fuel are you using? I have heard VP C-16 works well at high rpm pulling, never tried it.

VP racing fuels make C-16. It is about 105 octane, it is a leaded fuel, you can get it anywhere VP racing fuel is sold. I have another question? How much compression are you running? To the best of my memory, when you have alot of compression, over 225psi, you need to step up the octane rating to control detination in the cyl. I have heard too much octane will actualy hurt an engines hp and "smooth operation" The cam specs you gave are close to what I using in my chrysler running 10% over rpms, works well for me too. the olnly difference is I am using an up draft carb. Can you run a spacer plate under the carb? That woud create alot of torque wouldn't it?

dont know of any vp fuels dealer here. running around 200 lbs compression, the way i understand the msd its suppose to fire all the way done. i like the blue fuel becase it burns so much clearner inside.i have always run blue fuel since i build the tractor in 99. never turn a tap on it till i was showing out an broke end cam off even block.bad mistake, ihave try a up draft with headerssounds out this world but not as much power as down makes.i had a 4 in. spacer on top of up draft seem to help some yes i have room for for a spacer up to a 1in.if need it.
