I am looking at getting into tractor pulling and would like to start with a farmall 560 gas or diesel. Is this a good choice and if so, which would be better. I would start in stock class and possibly upgrade to more advanced classes as money permitted. I also found out recently that there was a dealer installed turbo option available for the 560D. Is it any good and are parts still available. Also, is it legal for pulling if it is any good or worth the effort. I've been to many tractor pulls over the years but I don't have a lot of knowledge about building or buying a tractor for pulling. Any help that anyone can give me would be greatly appreciated. Winters coming before we know it and I need a project. And if it matters, I live in east central NE. Thank you very much in advance.

560's are a great tractor depending on where you want to pull and how much you want to spend. Murphy's motor service builds great engines anywhere from 400cid to 500cid using a 301 block. Lemons just built one using a 360 block that is around 740cid but prepare to spend big bucks. An easy way to build a motor is to use a 301 block and bore it to 4" which eliminates the need to have sleeves installed. the only down side is that you need to hard block the engine because of the thin cylinder walls. any stroke up to 5 7/8 fits into a 301 block rather easy hope this helps.

Sounds like you near the Feedlot Special 560, which is from Schuyler. I would talk to them or the guys that built their engine up at Wayne's Repair Service in Leigh. I think that they have a website that they have been working on at www.waynesrepair.com I hope that this helps out.

I pull a 560 gas and I love it. It usually pulls real well. My Father pulls a 560D and he does real well in the (real) stock classes. WE have to go on a dyno after the pulls. If you are not limited to going on a dyno I would like the diesel all you have to do is turn your pump up and raise your RPM's and 90+ hp is real easy to get.

Thanks for the info. Does anyone else have any info on what types of modifications you can make, etc. What are some other resources, such as books, web sites and any other magazines besides The Hook, which I already get, that can keep me pointed in the right direction? Thank you very much in advance.

I hear the easiest way to make power in a 560 is to get a German Diesel and put spark plugs in the injector holes. Just a thought...
