Restoring a 1961 John Deere 4010 from front to back. Parts are being taken off, cleaned and rebuilt if needed. Some parts (e.g. lines, rods, etc) will be sanded, primed and painted) but for larger parts, I wanted to wait on the painting until the whole tractor can be shot. The large sheet metal will be stripped and brought to a professional shop for painting. The smaller parts, though, will be done by me. For now, looking for opinions on a high quality primer that can be used for the smaller parts. Durability is a must. Price is no object as I need it to last. Tractor will not be a "show" piece but I am particular about my equipment. So I want the final paint coat to adhere extra well and withstand normal use. Thoughts?

You need to use the same thing the body shop uses. That way you can be sure that their topcoat matches yours, and that the topcoat and primer are compatible.

Thanks for the quick follow-up. The good news is that I'll be supplying the paint to the body shop. Since I see you provide quite a lot of feedback in this forum, what would you use? Remember that durability is primary. So many options....epoxy based primer, etch primer, WalMart brand, etc. So I seek the advise of experts! If $$$ wasn't an object, what primer would be best to use for all the parts?

I'm not an expert, I just read a lot and try to implement some of my reading, -- epoxy primer on everything, surfacer over the epoxy on the sheet metal (Body shop is going to charge you for labor for sanding!) My standard answer is PPG Omni: MP 170 epoxy, MP 182 surfacer, MTK acrylic urethane. If money is no object, then ask your painter about the PPG Concept line. DuPont and others have equivalent lines. Walmart carries good house paint. Stay away from Farm Stores.
