Frank,
Is this the supplied air system you described in the other post? It appears to be a true suplied air system and not PAPR. The page says nothing about being 3M. I hope this links works correctly. The ebay Item number is 3844537681

Seth this is not the system I was mentioning, unfortunatley I'm not computer savy enough to figue out how to attach a link, so go to 3M america, automotive, aftermarket, product catalog, safety, respirators, fresh air systems. they are calling it, 3M automotive fresh air system.

Frank,

It's easy:
1. Go to the page you want to link to.
2. Highlight the complete URL in the "address bar" of your browser.
3. Copy that to the clipboard - ctrl-C.
4. Open up a post box here at the forum.
5. Put your cursor in the "Optional Link URL" space that is under the post message box.
6. Paste the link URL info into that space - ctrl-V.
7. Fill in the "Link Title" space with whatever words you want to use to identify the clickable link. They will show up as a clickable link to the URL at the bottom of your message.

It sounds like a lot at first but once you get the hang of it, it's real easy. There are other ways, such as embedding multiple links within the message wording but the easiest way is to do just one link as indicated above.

Here's the example:

Where is the air intake -- if it's on the belt, I wonder how often the cartridge needs changing. It's positive pressure, but if the cartridge doesn't filter the iso's when it has been used a little while, it doesn't do much good. Perhaps it is a larger cartridge with more capacity? It may be ok for outside spraying, but with a room full of paint fumes, I don't know--.

The unit that Seth linked to on EBAY however is interesting. It is, in fact, a fresh air unit that appears to be a no-name competitor to the Hobby-Air. Seems like plenty of airflow for a unit like that. I wonder how much it will wind up going for.

Rod, my thoughts exactly... I"m actually thinking about just trying it. The full mask version though... It just makes me so curious to see how the mask and blower would compare to my 3M custom blower rig I have...
If I go for it, I"ll make sure to report!!!

CN,

I'm not sure if you are asking me or not. The air intake is, indeed, on the belt. You may not have seen my previous post to Frank on it that is buried deep in the thread below. Personally, I wouldn't waste my money on it. I just don't believe in messing with filtering cartridges when there is a excellent alternative (true fresh air). If one is serious about it, cartridge change shedules are a real problem unless you use a new cartridge every single time. It also depends on the iso concentration levels in the ambient air at the belt intake. I did review the manual for the unit that is available in .pdf at the 3M link. Guess what? Even 3M does NOT recommend the unit in situations where the concentration is unknown or where the warning properties of the contaminant are poor. Both of these situations exist with isocyanates in the uncontrolled and unmonitored environment typical of the hobby painter. Nope - I'm not recommending it at all.

Thanks -- You confirmed what I already thought. The only way I would use a system like that is in a spray booth, where most of the fumes are exhausted, even then I would not want to be between the gun and the fans. I just think that kind of system is a bad idea.

Not Frank... But, if your going to go the cheap method (and I've looked at that system too) I would make sure you go with the full face system as Iso's can enter your body through your eyes...
