Last year, shot my cub with IH 2150,lookes real good until I pulled her out this morninf for a nice relaxing ride before our 75 degree day disappear for a few days. Idrove itup to thhouse for a quick wash job to get the winters dust and dirt off of it and the black gunk that always seems to accumulate on all of my tractors over the winter. After the water dries I niticed it wasnt as shiny as it was last year when I shot the paint,my question is could this be a problem with the paint or me not applying it right,or do I need t oclean the paint up some more and give it a good coat of wax or something? Thanks!

If you made a 2nd pass before the paint flashed, this can happen. It did happen on parts of the cast on a Farmall C I painted over a year ago with PPG acrylic urethane. Each pass is supposed to overlap 50% with the previous pass, and then you wait until the paint flashes before giving it another coat. The irregular surfaces on a tractor are hard to paint uniformly, I probably doubled up occasionally. Sheet metal still looks good. Also cast will not reflect light as well as sheet metal. You may be seeing some slight fading that is not yet noticeable on the cast. I have not tried waxing it, I imagine it will help some.

This is how I done it,Had just the "body" of the tractor without hood/tank and fender, front wheels were off but rear hubs were.Shot all of that at one time, with pretty much covering the whole thing.Put on a second coat about two days later.Painted hood/tank and fenders pretty much the same way,got enough on it to cover it and have I think 4 coats on it,each waiting a cople of days in between before the next coat.I got some wax and polishing compound today and am going to see if this helps.Strange thing it the casted parts all still look really good.Hope this works and solves the problem,if not, shell get stripped and repainted I guess,I got to look good out in the yard!:)

At 70 degrees you need about 15 minutes between coats, not 2 days. You only wait until the paint becomes tacky, I use the term "flashes". If you used hardener, the paint was essentially cured in two days, and may have needed to be scuffed before the next coat. With some paints, (I do not know if the IH version of 2150 is one of them), if they are not recoated within a certain period of time, then you have to wait X number of days before you put on the next coat. I do not know if the way you did the job created the problem, however. Hopefully Rod or Butch, et al will have some comments also.

Yes,on the sheetmetal I did go over it with 800 grit WD sandpaper wet beforeI did the next coat.Truth is the only reason I did a second coat on the fram was to cover a few thin spots, first paint job I habe ever done. Idid get the shine back with the compound and the wax.I guess it had just gotten that dirty in the barn.My compounding rag was pink, old washcloth, now its black!

Wish I could correct these things after I post, or else learn to type -- Next to last sentence in my post should read "not yet noticable on the sheet metal."
