I am going to paint my first tractor. It is a IH Farmall M. It will be used soon after painting and I only have 4 days to paint it. I would like to leave as many parts on the tractor as possible. Which things must I take off and what are some things that I should watch out for so that I do not paint? (Other than the obvious such as the guages and seat) Can I paint right over major components such as the carbeurator, radiator, and the wiring? Thank you very much

You should take off the carb, air cleaner, and oil filter. It'll look better in the end.

FOUR DAYS??--Takes me two months just to clean mine. At least take the plug wires and dist cap off -- looks tacky to me otherwise. Best to take off the carb and air cleaner, along with the oil filter. Spray guns are meant to be used perpendicular to the surface. You will not get as good a job painting over any part that can be removed. Also, anything behind a part does not get painted. It's hard for me to give advice for shortcuts because I remove everything--but I have a LOT longer than four days.

Hey, CNKS: Do you think she's grasping at straws, maybe looking for somebody to sue? Maybe his place of employment doesn't have insurance for that kind of work! Heck, i sanded cars for 40 years, getting them ready for paint, and we didn't have sanding masks! I don't know of anybody who got sick in all that time from lead in the paints! I know i never got lead poisoning from the paints! It wasn't the lead in the paint, it was the iso's that got to me, but that took 10-15 years for that to take effect! The "Safety Nazi's" are the ones who got this lead paint "dangers" all stirred up. Heck, i went to schools with lead based paint, asbestos insulation, covered pipes, etc. All it did was make the lawyers rich, and gave employment to people to remove it from bldgs. The lawyers say lead paint is bad for you if you eat it! Who eats it? If ya feed yer kids well, they won't eat the paint! By the same token, if ya don't try to stir up yer asbestos insulation, it'll never hurt ya! How do you feel about that? Rusty Jones
