What clear coat to use?

I'm painting a IH 3588 red, and also doing a 6610 Ford blue at the moment. First time using CNH Iron Guard paint, all my other projects I either used TSC (junk) or Tallmans. I have never clear coated any of my previous projects, but this time I think I'd like to try it. I can not seem to find anywhere where it tells me what clear coat is acceptable with the CNH paint. Does anyone know?

The Iron Guard Paint is a single stage alkyd enamel. I wouldn't recommend putting any clear coating over the top. If you are going to do it I would use an urethane clear coat. I would first try it on a piece of scrap first to make sure it didn't lift. Also let the
Iron Guard paint dry for several weeks before using urethane. The alkyd paint depends on air circulating around it to harden and if you put clear over the top it may never harden.

It sounds like it is time for you to step up to 2K urethane. It doesn't have to be expensive. I talked to various people when I was about to paint my 901 Ford. Who wants to go to all that work and have it fade out? I went with Nason.

The local FFA restored my friend's H 15 years ago. The enamel has held up pretty well under the decals.

Agree with that. In addition, be sure to use hardener in the enamel. that will help it resist the solvent in the clear.

Or, just go all the way to urethane.

I've only used Dupont Nason single stage urethane and I'm not impressed. I painted two tractors in 2009, one with Nason and one with Rustoleum Farm & Implement Paint and the Rustoleum is fading less and generally holding up better than the Nason.

I did use the cnh paint on my 58 861D, I added van sickle hardener and shot it with a hvlp sprayer.
I just started clear coating it with van sickel clear enamel also with hardener, most parts sat for a month or so but the first ones I cleared only sat for 3 days.
No issues whatsoever, very happy with the results in the paint and clear coating.
