Carson,

Many, if not most, NAPA stores carry Martin Senour automotive paints. They have an epoxy primer in their economy Crossfire line. Here's the tech sheet for it. I have no personal experience with it but you might want to see if your local NAPA store carries it. You might also want to verify that the hardener for it does not contain isocyanates. It probably doesn't but I haven't checked the MSDS on it. I do know the OMNI epoxy hardener does not contain isos.

1 gallon JR506 (reducer)
1 gallon JP202 (primer)
JH301 (hardener) My PPG jobber in Wisconsin said Omni's now switched to what is called Shop Line. If you can not find Omni, these shop line numbers will work for your application

PPG's web site says Shopline is sold exclusively by their "Platinum" distributers -- which I don't have. Omni is still available -- Is Shopline better or worse than Omni? -- I bet the products are nearly identical, and that it's just a marketing ploy. I will ask next time I go to my dealer, he will probably say he's never heard of it.

They say it is exactly the same, I used to shoot PPG's DP50LF But now I switched to JP375sealer in the shop line to keep the cost down and that seems to flow and adhere just as well at a 1/4 of the cost. On my own stuff it is still PPG but some guys just dont like the cost. Just a bit of insurance I guess

The DP series is top of the line. The JP epoxy spec sheet reads exactly the same as the Omni MP epoxy spec sheet -- I bet they are the same.

Hi Carson,

My recommendation would be an epoxy primer like PPG's OMNI MP. The OMNI epoxy provides excellent adhesion and corrosion protection at a reasonable price. It should be compatible with just about any topcoat you want to put over it - either right away or months later.
