Anyone heard of any Same tractors lately or ever for that matter?

I think they were made in Germany.

Same tractors?
Excellent machines. I used several of them in England in the early eighties.
They used names to identify the differing models. The smallest I remember was the Minitauro, then there was the Drago at about 100 h.p. (I think).
The later models I ran used names like Leopard, Tiger, which was a 5 cyl. motor or an optional 6 was available, Buffalo, which was 120 h.p., and the Hurcules at 150 h.p.
The Tiger 6 was an excellent all round tractor.
I remember many hours of ploughing at night, with a bright red flare glowing out of the exhaust pipe on that tractor. It really pulled.
The Buffalo was also a very good unit.
I have seen them in Ontario, Canada, but they seemed to develop tranny trouble over the years, perhaps due to the power those Italian engines put out.
Perhaps, in time, they may be an interesting item for a collector. For now however they may be best avoided if you want a tractor to use regularly.
Regads, Herb.

yes herb, there several same tractors here in ontario canada,i have 3 of them 2-tigersix and 1-tiger 100,all 4wd, and cabs, great tractors,if you have tranny problems it is cause the tranny is low on oil,due to the fact the tranny and hydraulic oil are one, so when you use the hydraulics, you loose oil out of the tranny, in time the tranny pops out of gear the lower the oil level gets.hope this helps someone out

My neighbor has a SAME Minitauro 60. There is a dealer in Connecticut that used to carry them. Apparently the only reason they stopped was because of the electrical systems. The machines are VERY rugged though. I've looked at replacing a Zetor I had with one. Compaired to the New Holland's, it's much beefier hp to hp and about half the price. Parts are the only problem. We can't seem to find anyone who carries any stock of them in Southern New England.

Just my $.02

Ok Sonny!

I count them. It ha been 83, without Schanzlin and the other compacts, included Holder, cause the A12 was constructed as a real Farm-tractor.
You must know that in the beginning 50' we had a lot of very small Farmers here. In my Village (Population 1950 appr. 900-1000) had been over 20
Farms. 3 are left in 2002. 2 of them live from Farming. The other one is an Employee at the german Telephone Company.

PS:
I forgot Platten and Mulag, they are still in business today and built special tractors for cattle Farmers in Mountain areas like the Alpes or the black Forest.

Thanks for the info Bernhard. I learn a lot on this page. Now I have another question for you. How many companies were making farm tractors in Germany in 1950 and how many companies are making farm tractors in Germany today? Thanks, Sonny

Hi Sonny,

I looked in my book about german Tractor manufacturers, 1Band a-ko, till page 106 (it includes 246 pages) and found 16 Manufacturers there, in the 2Band Kp-z i've not take a look, if You want some Brands, Post it here, I'll send them.
Today we have Fendt,John-Deere, Deutz, Doppstadt, Blank, Krieger, Sauerburger, Schanzlin, Hieble, Gutbrod , Hako and Schneider maybe Mercedes with the Unimog. They all build compacts, exepted Doppstadt and Mercedes. But only Deutz and Fendt built Standard Tractors.
Wonna know some more? Ask me

Bernhard, I should have made myself more clear. I was talking about regular farm tractors, not contractor or construction ones. I don't understand what you are talking about when you say 1 Band and 2 Band. What is that about? The reason I asked you is that I heard that there were 52 companies making farm tractors in 1950 and only 3 companies making them in 1998. Is this true or could it be true I should say? Sonny

Hi Sonny,

Band 1 and Band 2 means that there is a 1 Book which You have the alphabetical order fro A-Ko,
and the 2 Book wents up to Z.
52 Manufacturers? It must be some more.
I gonna take a look and post it here.
Today there's Deutz-Fahr, Fendt, Mercedes-Benz(the Unimog is also sold to Farmers), Doppstadt.
Sorry, don't know, who could be the 5th. Schlueter
and Eicher are out of business. Maybe JD, cause they are established in the old Lanz plant in Mannheim.

Hello Sonny!

Same is an italian brand Tractor. I believe formally known as Frtlli. Cassani (Cassani Bros.).
Today they own Huerlimann(Switzerland) and Lamborghini tractors (Italy), also Deutz-Fahr. The first Same had not the best reputation in Germany. Some Dealers had them as a second Brand to offer a
cheaper tractor. Cassani built hot-bulbs like the Bulldog. The Same-Enginse which I know, were aircooled and looked like the Deutz-engines.
