It seems like there is always Model A parts for sale in Old Cars Weekly. It's a good magazine. For a copy, call (800) 258-0929. Working on a doodlebug?

What is a doodlebug? I found that mentioned in a couple of the tractor tales. Was it something specific or just a cut down A-model?
Thanks
Mike

Mike: "Doodlebug" is one of many nicknames for a homemade tractor. They were typically built from Ford Model A's or T's, but farmers would use whatever old car was handy at the time Chevrolets, Dodges, Oldsmobiles, etc. They would take off the body beyond the cowl, cut down the frame, put on bigger truck wheels and usually a truck rearend. A lot of them were built around the Depression and World War II. Some of them really have style, while others are a mess reflecting the talent of the builder.

Thanks for the info. Sorry so late to respond, but spring has sprung and chores mount up.
I wonder if anyone everyone has pictures of doodlebugs?
Thanks again
Mike

No problem, I'm just returning to this site for the first time in months, too. Doodlebug photos sometimes show up in Old Cars Weekly magazine (see www.krause.com), as they are car-related. There's also a club for the preservation of doodlebugs. Contact them at The Doodlebugs, 368 Intervale Rd., Canterbury, NJ 03224. Their newsletter sometimes has photos.
