Does someone know a good source of parts for a 510 Long Tractor? Not really sure of the year model 80 something maybe. Anyone else out there have a Long and what kind of service have you got out of it? Did I make a mistake buying this thing??

Don, Houston, TX

We have a 510 Long tractor and are having problems getting parts. Anyone out there have a good source; we specifically need a 3 way switch so the engine heater will work again. Any advice will be appreciated.

There are very few tractors not worth buying. I think you could have a LONG model, I have seen only aboutthree of them

They are fair tractors. The 510 is one of the better models. If you are planning to farm all day or use it for heavy construction use, you will be disappointed. They are better for general maintenance and up keep work. Brush hogging and blading etc. Change all the fluids at least once a year and do not use either on the engine. They can't take either. Since you are located in Houston area you shouldn't have to many cold days to contend with. Contact Long for a dealer near you. There all also more aftermarket parts available for Longs nowadays.

I have owned 3 different Long tractors, actually one was a universal ( canadian version) I found them to be good overall tractors. They do have a tendency to leak oil, more just seepage than actual leaks. They don't start the best as stated before, but in your climate you should be fine. I am in the landscaping business and generally sell them at about 2000 hours, up to that point just usual service. good luc

Dave, Thanks for the come back, this tractor has over 2000 hrs on it but seems to be in pretty good shape. I am just a weekend farmer but am haveing a frontend loader put on it. Do you see a problem with that? You ever use one of your longs with a loader? If so what size hyd pump did you have? Stock is 5.5 gpm which is what I think I have, according to the manual you can get a "10 gpm kit", do you think I might concider this?

Thanks again Don Roach
PS real wet down here in Houston about 6.5" last night!!
