Here's a follow up to my earlier contact. Just checked this brake stuff. Apparently there were 3 brake designs on the 30's. First was a contracting band type which was replaced by their 'duo-grip' (double solid pivoting shoes) design in an 1 1/2" width which was replaced later by the 2" width shoes. Also used a bigger drum, at least wider and probably bigger in diameter too. Anyways, I live in north central Alberta and you mentioned Canada being a preference for a contact. I would say that my '49 model 30 has the 1 1/2" wide shoes (which I eventually found but it wasn't easy) and yours would maybe be the bigger ones (which I have a set of) which would be the 2" ones. Your 1953 is of a pretty high serial number (35550 and up) which is well past any of this changeover update numbers in my book so they might likely be the ones. If we hook up and strike a deal, I can send them to you and if they are the wrong ones, send them back and I'll refund your money (less shipping of course). Here's my email again:

Saw your reply about a 53 Cockshutt. This has nothing to do with what I am looking for information on, but maybe you can help.
We have a 1952 E2 Co-op wide front end,3pt hitch
live hydraulic, parade ready, and never been worked on. The serial #1004 and has a continental engine. My husband is the second owner and knew the original owner. We cannot find anything about Co-ops and thought maybe you could give me some information. We know it was made in Canada but I donot know who to write about it. We would like to know about what it is worth because want to sell it. Thank you for any help you might give.

You've got a Cockshutt 30 if it has a 153 cubic inch Buda engine. At some point during production (I have the serial number changeover information at home) they changed brake shoes to a bigger shoe and I THINK I've got a set of shoes for the later run models. I bought a model 30 a few years ago and it did not have shoes in place, but the seller gave me a set in a box that he said would fit the tractor (they look similar). However, they were too big and I have always assumed that they were for the upgraded version which came later (mine is a 1949), however I can't guarantee they're even Cockshutt parts, but they are certainly the same design. I'll check the serial number changeover and send it to you later. Meanwhile, you can contact me at:

See ya, Mike.
