I need a little help. I am about to take possession on an Avery A from the early 40's (which I sort of inherited). I've never seen it but I do know it is similar (if not exactly the same) to the General tractors from Cletrac (Cleveland Tractor Co.). My question is, did the BF Avery Company make the Generals, or did Cletrac make the Avery? I have two different reference books that contradict each other. Drop me a line at my email address:

mballash@wci.ab.ca

Thanks, Mike

Greetings from NY
I have 5 GG's, an "A", and an HG

Avery made equipment. By today's jargon they would have been a "short line" company. That is they only made equipment. Avery made most of the attachments for the Cleveland Tractor Co. I am only aware of one other company that made any items specifically for the GG, the Detroit Mower Co. (I have a Detroit Mower. The Detroit Mower Co. even made a front mounted crawler for the HG crawler.) Back to Avery and Cletrac ... When Cletrac started to drop from popularity it would appear to me that Avery had a delimma ... We're losing our market, what to do? Avery ended up with the rights to the GG. I believe I have seen information somewhere there were actually 43 model Avery GG tractors were made. I believe all the first year Avery A's were exactly the same as the GG. As time passed the A evolved continuing to utilize the "old" Avery equipment. Avery eventually came out with the "V". Avery was sold to Mini-Mo

That explains why my General has a decal which says "Distributed by B.F.Avery & Sons". Thanks

Now, where does Oliver come into the picture?
