I am looking for some information on how the speed of the cooling fan is controlled. In cold weather it blows all of the time. I also run a 7120 on which the fan does not turn until the engine warms up. I am aware of a sensor that mounts to the exhaust manifold that must meter oil to the fan. Does anybody have experience with this?

These tractors have a thermostat that controls flow of oil to the fan. If the thermostat goes out it's possible to supply oil to the fan by placing a thin washer on the spring pin valve that the thermostat would normally depress. You should not screw the pin valve in to the oil supply line without a washer because the pin may break off. Perhaps this was done to your tractor. I was told a new thermostat is over $500 so the washer trick may have been used.

Thanks Dave. I don't know the full history of this tractor but what you describe sounds possible.

If I could pick your brain further. There is a solenoid valve in the oil line leading to the fan between the thermostat and the fan. Do you know anything about that?

Don,

Thanks for the advice. I'm not familiar with Rusty at Ward Bros and don't know how to contact him. Thanks for any additional info.
