I have a G174. First question is, are you using a seperate PTO driven pump or are you using the tractor hydraulics? Second question: is this something new or has it always done that since the backhoe was first used?

i'am using tractor hydraulics just traded for it and i'm trying to get it in working conditon.
i think my problem might be in the front loader when you work the loader or backhoe it builds up pressure and blows oil out of the transmisson.
any information or help would be app.
thanks a million

In your first post you did not mention oil blowing out when you use the loader. Does it blow out also when you use just the loader?

Does it blow out when you just leave her set there at hi idle about 15-1800rpm not operating any of the attatchments?

Does it just blow out when you use the hoe? / the idea I'm leaning to...

There are different possibilities for each & I type too poorly to try to answer each. Gimmee a yes/no to the above & I'll try from there.... I'm by no means an authourity but I got a couple ideas...

Under that condition you can eliminate the valves & cylinders as a problem. Unless you pull a lever to activate an attachment cylinder all the hydraulic fluid is just moving through a loop. Problem is it seems to me you have an air leak in the suction side of the pump. My manuals for the 174 I have/3 cylinder 17 horse version of your 154 say to use Bolens something or other transmission fluid or 80-90 weight standard gear oil that you would put in your car/truck manual transmission. That is kinda thick & it would create a vacuum on the suction side of the pump. Lines hook to the transmission by your right foot when sitting on the tractor. They then go up to a pump on the engine. Suction line is larger than the pressure line. Check all the connections on the line & check for leaks with the tractor stopped. I believe she's sucking air somewhere.... If memory serves theres a O-Ring on the suction line where it connects to the transmission. Then again it could be a rusted/nicked line or whatever. Wherever the problem is it should be wet/oily when the tractor has been shut down for a day or so. You might have to clean up any oil already leaked to find it..
A source I have found for all kinds of Bolens manuals ect should you be looking for a manual- Fast Spider@aol.com They guy never seems to run out of bolens manuals...All kinds.. Tractor, attachment, repair, sales literature & on & on. Tell him "Petersburgh" sent ya.... I think that to be your problem. Lemmee know? I can ponder further....
