Have a 1947 Silver King. Has been setting for 12+ years in the garage. Had an empty fuel tank and radiator. Cleaned the coil and plugs, replaced the battery, and cleaned out carb. It has good spark, but the fuel wont pull up. Cant find any vacuum leaks. Tried to prime it with fuel. Still cant get the fuel up to the plugs. What am I missing?

Are some of the valves stuck open?Check compression on each cylinder.

What would a good dry compression rating be? What about a wet rating?

You have a flat head engine and 85 to 100 should be fine for that engine. It should be able to run well at 50 to 60.The readings need to be close to each other for it to run smooth.I have gotten much higher or lower numbers depending on which tester I use,so don't be alarmed if you only get 45 on the first try.Oiled reading should be the same, but if they are much higher, then you would think its time for a ring replacement.

Thanks for the advise Larry. Got her up and running today. The manifold was warped a little causing a vac. leak. Filed it flat, put the carb back on and away she started. Going to get her ready for a show this week. I am going to miss her if I sell her. (Is it really a her with a name of Silver `King'?)
