460 Long tractor Q..

I called about a Long tonight, and will be going to look at it this weekend. The guy said it is a 460, when I went to check the value at MachineryLink.com they listed a number of differing 460s. What is the difference between a 460, 460 DT, 460 DTC and 460 SD?

Do these tractors have any particular bad habits? How about brakes, the guy told me it has wet brakes, how reliable? (lots of hills on the place).

We have a Long dealer about 20 miles away that has carried Longs since the late 70's or early 80's, and probably even was the dealer the tractor was purchased through when knew, so parts shouldn't be a big problem.

I bought a 460 Long Tractor the other day. Can someone tell me where it is made, how you tell what year it is, and who makes the engine?

I'm only 13 I've read that they're made in Romania.I have one and I looked at the tag on the side of the transmission and engine block to find out.

Regret that I cannot tell you the meaning of the letter suffixes for the 460. I have a 360 which has the same engine, but lower power rating. Mine is a 1977 model, bought new. The only time I break something is when I abuse it. I am very pleased with mine, but the Longs are not the latest design nor the best tractor made. They do represent great value for the price. The 460 has a differential lock pedal, I believe. The 360 does not.

i have a 460 4-wheel drive. i seriously dont recomend a long. the hydrolic system is the strongest i have ever seen, but every thing else is junk. the parts are cheap made from factory and way over priced. i use this thing every day and work it hard. i end up fixing things almost every time i start it. the only reason i have it is because it was my dads.

460 is 2wd. The others are different forms of 4wd.
If it has wet brakes, the seals are leaking. Seriously, they have dry band brakes and are as good or better than any other make with that type brake system.

Thanks for the info. Hopefully the guy is mistaken on it having wet brakes.
