I recently purchased the above Long Tractor. It has only 2300 Hr. on it and appears to be fairly well maintained. I changed the oil and filter and also changed the hydraulic oil and cleaned the screen. Now I cannot get the hydraulics to work. I have checked for air leaks on the suction tube, replaced the O-ring on the tube at the inlet port side of the pump. The pump is working but it is not picking up any fluid. The person I bought from thought I used a too high a grade of hydraulic oil. I used a Premium Hydraulic/Transmission Fluid from Tractor Supply. I do not get any oil to the power steering or hydraulics.

Note: I had to remove the entire suction tube to remove and clean the screen due to a side mount sickle bar mower that prohibited the removal of the screen from the tube. This is what the previous owner did also. When I took off the tube from the rear of the tractor the 12 mm bolt was stripped and I replaced it with the same hardness and pitch but it was about 3/8 " shorter the new bolt was 100 mm long. I have also taken out the piston located under under the sear clean lubricated it and replaced it. Is there any way to bleed the air from this tractor? Would this make any difference? Should I be using a different oil? What will help with this problem?

Any suggestions are welcome.

what happens is the pump will loose prime when the fluid is drained in most cases it will require loosing the pressure line at the pump ten turn the engine over till the pump is primed. Long dealer since 1974

Hey Greg, I ran into the same problem on a 350 Long, came to find out it had an air lock in the housing and would not allow fluid to flow out, try this either pull the dipstick out or take the filler plug out of the case where you filled it with oil start the tractor see if the hyd. work if so it had the same problem as the one I had, then find your little vent on the case remove it and clean, reinstall all parts and your ready to go. Hope this helps.
