I took the Big cast iron hubs off the 880 to check the bearings and the one side had no seal and old tar like grease like it has never been changed and no seal and a extra washer behind the nut that is not in the book the other side had a thick oil in there thicker than 80/90 and the back bering was bad and the seal is runed so I have to put one bering in each side and both seals and gaskets but what kind of grease is supost to be in there the book said xxpound of lithium grease is that regular wheal bering grease or something els what is the best stuff to put in there the guy at the parts plase said there is supost to be oil in there thanks Thomas

I've been using moly ep grease instead of wheel bearing grease for over 40 years now. Prevents any rusting when tractor sits for long periods between use. Also, tapered bearings that do not run fast as in this case can be run really tight.
Torque the adjusting nut to about 20 lb-ft, yes 20 pound-feet.

At one time Oliver had you use gear oil in there (hence the little pipe plug on the cast center) but later they changed to recommending just packing your wheel bearing with just standard wheel bearing grease. Clean everything up really good and then replace your bearings and races, and wheel seals. Then pack and coat everything with new grease. That washer was probably added by someone, I dont think Oliver used a washer between the nut and bearing but I know some vehicles have them so it is probably your decision just as long as the wheel bearing is adjusted properly.
