880 Trans Drain Plug Stuck

I tried to drain the trans oil and rear end on the 880 and the rear plug is free but the trans plug is stuck and half striped out am I going to hurt any thing if I pore the heet to it with the smoke wrench may have to weld a bolt to the plug or something to I beat on it with one of those hit it with the hamer and it terns it deals but no luck I thought about puting the Impact on there but the only way to get a good push on it as to not strip it I am afrade would be to lay under there and push up I just see that plug compleatly striping or going flying out of there leaving me in a shower of nasty old oil any Beter Idias Thanks Thomas

I have herd about that wax trick but I have never tried it I think I might on this one becous I might only have one shot but it is not compleatly rounded yet that jack and braker bare sound like something that would work but I dont know but I should try both at once but I am not going to melt any seals heating it up to try this am I also will a drain plug from any Oliver trans or rear end be the same if it looks like it is need to replace it after I get it out thanks Thomas

Cummins 1955... That is a great tip. I don't have the problem described at the present, but the suggestion went right into the old "Cold Storage" area under my hat, for use at the right time. Thanks from an old timer that isn't too old or proud to recognize a good idea when presented!!!!!

Thanks for the reply. I don't need the credit. The good Lord blessed me with many good ideas, and few not so good. When I get into that thinking mode of how to solve a problem, nothing is off the table. That one came from hating to use a torch to cut the heads off of the bolts that the Company was to tight to replace too often. It is way safer, and faster than cutting them out. It also prevents the tooling from getting damaged. It is hard to say how much money this has saved them over the last 10 years. They have payed me for evey hour I worked for them so I can't complain.

Had the same problem with a plug in the side of my 1600. WAX! I mean heat it up and push a candle or another block of wax of some kind against it.The heat will pull the wax in to the threads. I let mine cool a little then just barely tapped it with a chisel because I had completely rounded it out and couldn't use a breaker bar any more. It spun right around,I stuck my thumb in it and turned it right out. GUARANTEED! You might have to repeat the process once or twice (I didn't) but I'll guarantee you it will work. Try it.

Here is an idea that we use at work to remove upside down bolts that operators get lazy and strip out. I am sure it will work for you. clean the hole as clean as possible, and insert a breaker bar and seat the best you can with a hammer. Don't get carried away, just enough. Then take a hydraulic jack and make sure it is uscrewed some and jack it up tight. It doens.t take a whole lot. Then pull the breaker bar and it allows you to use a pipe if necessary. I like the craftsman breaker bars because the have a nice square place to place the jack. Unsrewing the jack is important because when the breaker bar turns it will turn the screw, preventing slip offs, as well as lowering the jack wile the plug is coming down.

I got it out I heated it up with the torch put the candel to it and then did the jack thing and it rased the tractor and spit out by home made tool and it was rounded off left it set a while and then got under there with the chisel and tried that and then I took the hammer and hit on it trying to sqare it up and put the braker bar in there and it came right out Thanks Thomas
