Hey everyone, I posted on here earlier in regards to my Cockshutt 30 PTO slipping under load. Well I tore into it and followed as someone had told me to remove 1 of the 5 clutch assembly shims in hopes that it would tighten it up. Well once it was al together and threw it into gear nothing happened. It felt nice and tight but now with it in gear the shaft or nothing turns. I wonder should I have added more shims, I have a parts assembly form another tractor and the shims from it look to be thicker that the ones in there? Any help would be appreciated as I have ot get this tractor up and running cuz I use it on the flail mower. Thanks to all in advance and I look forward to the input.

When new it came with .050 shims if you have 5 under each leg then they must be .010 each. The only real adjustment is by removing some of these shims. probably 2 is sufficiant especially if it was just slipping. If it wont turn at all check for propper reassembly at yoke system where it cams over to lock in. also you should have 2 plates and 3 friction disk. check yoke were square grooves are and tabs on outside of plate where it goes through shims. Make sure nothing is slightly out of allignment and catching so these plates do not travel freely. the pto yoke can also get grooves wore into it and this will not allow plates to move freely. One of these things will be your problem unless your imput shaft is sheared off, not likely though. email me if you need more info or parts. Irv

hey guys, so when I remove a couple of those shims I should remove 1 plate and 1 friction disk? I'm a little confused here when you say friction plates and disks, are those the same things as the shims or am I missing something here? thanks for everyhting in advance

If this doesn't help email me and I will send you a diagram. The three plates with the grooves cut in them and 3 square notches are called Facing and Disk by the parts manual or friction disk. The 2 metal plates that have tabs on outside that run between them are called clutch plates by the parts manual or clutch plates. the shims are bolted under the bracket sleeve assy and should have .050 from factory, could be 5 .010 onder each of 3 legs or could be .020 + 3 .010 or some othe combo. what ever they had that worked at time. Only remove friction disk and clutch plates to clean and make sure they are usable, then put all 5 piece back in same order. assemble but pull out 1 or 2 .010 shims from each leg and if all else is ok this will take care of your slipping problem. now what is your questions?

Allan: removing shims compensates for wear in the drive and driven disks, The PTO clutch is an overcenter wet clutch. Take a look at your shim pac now. What thickness is your shim pac now? Removing one at each attaching point (the thin ones ) should change the amount of snap necessary to throw the clutch over center. Since I think you work for an Agco dealer, have you ever adjusted a PTO clutch on say a 1600 or an older Oliver > Same idea except the Oliver used a dry over center clutch. Questions? J.
