I would like to paint this plow to it's original glory but am alittle confused as to if is an oliver or one they made for someone else. The original paint on the rims is a golden harvest yellow as well as the tail wheel and mounting bracket. The fram and back of mole boards was red. The casting numbers all start with EP. The hitch is different than any other oliver rooster comb plow I have scene. Any ideas ??

We also have an Oliver Plow. I believe its a Plowmaster No. 100. Its a two bottom with 14" Points. My grandfather bought it used in the early 50's. It was originally green with red wheels. My question is we're in desperate need of points, shims and landsides. Does anyone know where you can still purchase them? And if so, what the part numbers are? Thanks!

I have a Oliver 100 plow that I purchased from a friend of mine. They purchased it new in 1949 and it was green with red wheels. It is the same set up as the photo.

Hello,
I have several Oliver plows and sales literature to go along with them. In my opinion none of the Oliver Plowmaster 100 series of plows ever were painted entirely Red! The early Oliver tractor drawn plows from the late 20's into the 30's were painted all Red. Now, early Oliver Plowmaster plows had Red frames and Green Wheels(They were available with Steel wheels or Rubber tires on press steel rims). Later on they painted the frames green and went to Red wheels. I wish I could tell you exactly when that occured. It is a fact that Oliver built model 60's,70's,80's,and 90's as Cockshutts. They were identical except for the trim and RED paint with yellow wheels. It could be possible for plows to be painted with the yellow wheels however I haven't heard of that. If it was my plow I would paint the frame Red and the wheels Green.

Mike, you need to calm down.

First off, you need to read my answer to Fleetline Robert's question. He asked me what color I would paint the plow, and I told him. I didn;t say it was correct, but that's how I would paint it.

Now to answer the questions about the plowmaster and the heavy duty gang plows from 1945 to 1954, Yes, both series were painted red with green wheels up to about late 1951. At that time they started painting the plows green and the wheels red. When the replacment plows ( 4240 & 4440) first came out they were painted all green for the first couple years.

As for the plows built in the 20's and 30's, some were painted all red and some were red with yellow wheels. I have no idea as to the time frame when they painted the wheels either color.

You comment about the Cockshutt tractors and that they were painted red is only partly correct. The first few years the tractors were paint green, just like the Oliver's. Look at advertising brochure(s) FORM 110 7-38 10m and FORM F 2-38 23m. These brochures show the Cockshutt tractors (70 80 90 99) to be green and the wheels to be red.

The statement was made a short time ago about the Oliver 70's painted different colors, and the public at the fairs, etc. voting as witch color they liked best. If you do your home work you will find from about 1937 to 1942 Oliver painted their tractors green (AG), and red or green (INDUSTRIAL). Some were trimed in red, some in yellow, and some in orange. I don't mean to up set you, but the wheels were painted red, or green, and even some were even painted yellow. Yes, I said YELLOW. We won't even talk about the yellow combines, drills, corn planters or manure spreaders built in this same time frame.

During WW II, when Oliver and Cletrac became one company, the green (AG) and orange (IND) colors appeared. In about 1952 the color of the tractors and implements changed once again. The green color became lighter and the industrial equipment was painted yellow. This is the same time they changed the decals from red to yellow.

Have a good day today and a better day tomorrow.

Kelsem,
Ok that sounds like good advice. I did notice when I took off the rolling coulter mounting brackets there were two white pin strips painted on the main fram in a horizontal direction, looked to be original. I painted another 2 bottom plow this winter an painted like you discribed. I'll try and attach a picture.

Thanks, Robert

HI

We have a 100 we still use 2/16 and Dad sold one when I was young , it was red. The one we use is green, and under the green one, the back side of the mold boards is red the oliver red that was on the older items. If you need good rock shims I have a place to get them, you can plow about 30 acres of hard rocky ground, before they need replaced.

I don't think it's a Cockshutt. Cockshutt was originally a PLOW company. It should be red with green wheels. Oliver had a standardized paint system whereby implements weighing less than a certain weight were red with green wheels, over that weight were green with red wheels. So the two bottom plows were red and the three bottoms, being heavier were green with red wheels.

Oh one other thing I think some one switched out the wheels on it because all the rooster comb plows I have ever seen where on steel wheels

When I started in 1960 we traded in a fair number of model 100 plows with your rooster comb lift. They were all on rubber tires.

Robert, I am just curious. Do you live in Canada or could the plow have come out of Canada?

The plow came from Fostoria, Ohio. The farmer I got it from bought it from the original owner some 40 years ago. He has always kept it inside and still has the original paint colors under the repaint you see in the picture. I was wondering if it may be a Cockshut 120 model plow since the rims have a harvest gold color under the yellow you see in the picture.

Robert: Where are you located since Fostoria is partially in the next county. Now doubt Stroman Implement sold it as they were a good old dealer. J.

Robert. That plow is a Oliver plowmaster 100 built sometime between 1945 and 1954. The reason I asked if the plow came out of Canada is the drawbar and the arm that holds it up. I have never see a Oliver plow with that setup, but I have see Cockshutt plows with a simular hitch. I would say that hitch is factory. The EP part numbers are Oliver plow numbers. I would say that all though it is a Oliver plow, it has a Cockshutt connection somehow.

Thank you Fan
That was my take on it also. The hitch and the cockshut yellow rims had me wondering if oliver may have made this plow for cockshut ? If you were going to repaint it would you paint it with the cockshut yellow or keep it standard oliver colors ? I have had the plow diped at a place I take sheet metal to. They can dip cheaper than I can sandblast so it's ready to get painted I just don't know what color to use.

Thanks for your imput !!

If the plow was mine, I would say to myself: O.K. I know three things for sure. #1 it's a Oliver 100 plow master. #2 I know that it was orginally red. #3 it has a hitch like I have never see before. There fore I would paint everything red including the rims. Then I would use it, or take it to shows, or whatever.

If you every find out any more information, you will still have your orginal pictures to go by.

You know more about these than I ever will, but I can remember loading a couple of them on this pickup for the guy that purchased these trade in model 100 plows. I know two of them were green. Also remind me of this like after the first of July. I will try to remember a few people that still may have a model 100 plow. Thanks. J.
