Can anyone tell me how many Oliver/Cockshutts were made with the hydraulic front wheel assist from the Levy company?

Sherry did an article on them in the Aug-Sept issue. She listed prices and all but didn't seem to know how many were made either. Just said they were rare because Oliver had MFWD at the time.Said she only knew of a handfull.

Thanks for your reply. Is a cockshutt any more rare than an oliver with HFWA? There is a picture of my 1850 Cockshutt on the tractor photos link and I don't know how to attach it onto here. Thanks,

Great looking tractor. Nice find. More likely there are less Cockshutt HFWA than Olivers but the Oliver version is more desirable. As a rule Oliver collectors prefer green tractors that say Oliver. Although I must admit I like red and nothing but green gets boring. Did you check to see if your Cockshutt was a factory 4-wheel drive? I bet it is.

I am going to throw you a cure maybe. In 1963 4 of us young guys went to the M & W gear show some where in Indiana. Levy had a Cockshutt 1800 C series tractor there with it on. I did take a picture of it, don't know if my boy still has the slide or not. So my point is there will be some tractors equipped with the hydraulic front wheel assist that were not installed as orignal equipment option in Charles City. Point #2. A good friend of mine and a third generation Oliver farmer was telling me this summer he has a 1950GM he purchased with front wheel assist several years ago. he did not want the front wheel assist, took it off and sold it and put a regular front end on it. So now you can find tractors equipped with the front wheel assist which will not check out with the build card. My 2 cents worth. J.

Is there any way of knowing if it was factory or added later on other than checking the build card? Thanks for your reply.
