I am looking for a bullgear for an Oliver Transmission, Specification Number 183, Serial Number 70552000. The Transmission is fitted to a Britstand Road grader that was apparently made by Oliver Tractors Inc. I was wondering if a similiar transmission was fitted to any agricultural tractors also.

Oliver made more than one model of transmission for road graders and built them for over 25 years. Do you have the gear out? There should be a forging number on the gear. Is the first letter a D or an A to start with?

Thanks for the help guys. No I have not had a chance to strip the transmission down. The outside of the gear has peeled off the internal section and punched a hole thru the top housing. Hence we can see in to view some of the damage. I was trying to get some idea of what machines had the same transmission with a view to perhaps getting a wreck for parts before I went too far. I am getting an education about this old piece of machinery in the process which is nearly as much fun as driving my old grader. I will report back.

There where a good numbner of companys that used Oliver trannys in a grader and then used some other brand engine. In my galion 303 it has an Oliver tranny but has a farmall 560 gas engine in it. Heres a phone number of a guy that may have the parts you need 740-439-5512 The place is called equipment salvage and they are in ohio

You might take a look at Galion graders. They used an Oliver Trans too, or at least some of them did. I've seen Galion graders from the late "40s and into the "50s with Oliver"s name in the repair manual & in the parts books. "Oliver" is also on the castings. They are a fairly common machine. Many can be found in the back lot of Southeastern Equ. Co near Cambridge Ohio
