A friend is looking at a 1971 Oliver 1955 #228692
thats had a 4-71 Detroit put in it.The asking price is $3500 which I feel is plenty high.

He says it runs and drives good and has the 3 speed over-under.Tires arent that great.

I think he should stay away from this one.He has a nice 1755 and will sell it if he gets the 1955.

Opinions.

If you buy it ,better invest in some good earprotectors too. Man they are noisy.
I have an 1855 with a 354 jimmy in it , lots of power but the noise drives me nuts . i use it to bale about 400 acres a year

As far as value goes I would say from a collecters point of veiw for sure it might not be very collectable. However if you work a lot of land, have something big enuff to drag behind it, where going to use it and dont plan on reselling any time soon why not?(especialy if you like detroits) If It was a good 471 and properly installed that is? I cant figure out how they would get it in the tub of a 1955?? Probably a butcher job? You better go look at tractor with your buddy by the sounds of it, take some pics while you are there I would like to see how they did the conversion.

The only way I can think of is to use the tub from a 1900 or 1950 w/ the detroit. I've only seens a few 1900-50's, and they have a huge tub, much wider than the others.
