We have a 550 that when the PTO is engaged and you push the clutch in to slow down or stop the PTO kicks out of gear and you have to reengage it. Seeing as the 550 has live PTO I don't think this is normal. can this be adjusted and fixed or is it more complicated than that?

You need to free up and grease the shafts and pivots on both clutches.

I'm having the same problem can you give "dummy" instructions for what you did? What adjustment did you make for the PTO on the lever or was it elsewhere? Thanks

Without looking, my recollection is that the PTO lever and the clutch pedal pivot on the same shaft, and if they aren't kept lubed, the action of the clutch pedal will drag the PTO lever out of gear, especially if PTO is not adjusted tight enough to snap over center.

It was elsewhere. Look under the tractor up about where the clutch pedal is and you will see a plate with 4 bolts in it. Take the plate off and look for a spring loaded pin sticking in the notches of the round plate. Push the pin in and turn the plate until you get the PTO lever to cam over and lock good. I think I moved mine about two notches. I haven't hooked it up to anything to put a load on it and try but i worked fine just running freely.
