Did I read your post correctly, you are using 2 GALLONS of oil per day? Are you getting little black "dots" on the upper surfaces of you tractor? It could be the seal on the turbo charger. Put a clean light colored glove on and stick your hand it the exhaust stream, if you get spots it's putting raw oil out the exhaust.

The Perkins engines used in the 2-85/2-105 tractors are good reliable power provided they are maintained & used properly, however, if they are overfueled and/or ether is used excessively failure will occur. The 2-105 early (thorugh the next to last year of production) engines had non reinforced top ring lands in the pistons where the 2-85 did. If fuel delivery was increased, and engine operated for continous max power, the result would be breakdown of the upper ring land and a broken ring resulting in a complete piston failure. First piston to fail is always #5, as apparently, coolant flow is less in that area. The late 2-105 & and following 2-110 engines have a "dot 4" engine with reinforced upper ring lands. This engine has piston cooling nozzles to cool the piston and lubricate the upper end of the connecting rod. The upper end of the connecting rod is a "tee pee" design, this provides more material in the piston pin area. Dot 4 pistons (3 rings vs 4 in early) can be installed in the early engine, however, early connecting rods with drilling the length of the rod for lubrication to the piston pin area must be used since the early engine does not have spray nozzles. To use the early rod in the late piston means that the upper end of the rod must be machined for the tee pee piston. This subject is addressed in Service Bulletin GB-24-107 dated 11-18-83. If you have the cylinder head removed, inspect the valve depth in the head. Measurement can not be more than specification. Valve depth greater than specification will result in hard starting & low load smoke.

Perkins did not use the best material for their pistons and I have overhauled several because of broken rings and ringlands. They have about the same symptoms as you described. Of course I would check the injectors and do a compression test first, but this is most likely the problem. As far as the clutch, it souds like it has too much freetravel. Adjust so the pedal moves about an inch before you feel it contact the pressure plate.
