Fred had a alternator when I got him. I put the bracket back on when I put his head back on. Does any one know what alternator this is? Does it have a built in regulator? That the regulator on the back of it? Might just make him a 12 volt tractor...Still debating on it thou....That 6 volt wiring is hard 2 screw up!! Simple!!! Will need to find a genny and backet thou..

Would my mounting bracket work with that?

Bob any idea on the year make and model one of these came out of? Im more likely to trade it in versus rebuilding it. The fan on the pully is banged up to. Must have been hitting the axle extension

They were used on LOTS of farm and industrial equipment, as well as AMC stuff, and IH pickups and Scouts.

If you want a different alternator, just get a Delco 10SI for a 1975 Chevy pickup.

It spins but the gulf coast weather was not very nice to the bearings. Got a part # ? napa guys might give me weird looks LOL 12 volts is tempting...

Ill be back with more questions if Fred stays 12 volts...I need to replace everything including the key switch. It had its wires cut off and a toggle switch was mounted on the dash.

Any reason to stick with a AMP guage and not go with a volt guage? I tossed all the guages in the trash. Has a extra hole for a Temp guage. Going to use HOBO"S metod for that one.

Need a genny or a working alternator first. I dont wanna fire him up with out a working water pump....Need to warm him up and snug those head bolts again...

Bob said: (quoted from post at 20:57:53 03/26/08) It's a Motorola/Prestolite. The regulator IS the box on the back.

The yellow wire is PROBABLY for the "idiot light" AND a little "excite current.

With a little finagling, it can be set up for (+) or (-) ground, 6-Volt or 12-Volt by a swap of the regulator, and moving rectifiers around and swapping out the isolation diode.

A GOOD alternator. DON'T toss it. Good cores are getting hard to find!

The drive end bearing is a common "203" (6203) generator/alternator bearing. (17MM bore, 40MM OD)

The rear bearing is PROBABLY a "200" (6200) bearing. (10MM bore, 30MM OD)

Some used a "203" in the rear position, as well.

probably B cheaper to go 12V,,, the wiring is less of a pain than you think,,, you can take a elcheapo 6v harness and turn it into a 12V deal EZ,,, have a better starting/charging system,,, parts off the shelf local,,, found in any bone yard,,, cheaper than 6v parts and you are not captive to the down falls of a 6v system

Sean, It looks like a Prestolite,or it could be a Leece-Neville.

Have a lead on a genny and bracket...This alternator in the pic is shot...So I may be going 6 volt after all...Wiring it will be a walk in the park!! So if this works out anyone need a set of alternator brackets if we can find out what alternator this is??? Have a set of cheap 12 volt headlights to...look like TCS brand...
