Not sure anybody saw this on the end of my previous post....

It looks like I will have to take the front end off to replace the fan belt on this 8n. There just isn"t any clearance between the crank pulley and the front motor support housing. By the way this 8n has a freeman loader on it (thus the front Hyd. Pump) so I am trying to figure out the best (safest) way to proceed. I have a jack supporting the front of the engine and s 2x6 on jack stands to catch and slide the front axle assembly on. Anything else I should be prepared for? Also, Where is the best place to take apart the steering linkage? I banged abit on the linkage at the end of the spindle arm but it didn"t seem to want to go anywhere. Tips appeciated!

Don't get carried away.. I'd cribb the loader up.. and crib the tranny, and get the front end on a floor jack.. remove the radius rod at the trany end/retaining cap, and then pop the steeirng arm tie rod end loose use a pickle fork, or take a couple hammers and hit the socket end 180' apart and it should deform the joint momentarilly enough to pop the pin end loose.

Swing one side out 1/2 - 1".. just enough to put the belt on... throw 2 on there and tie one up to hang as a spare..

A pic of your setup would be nice so we can see the clearance issue you are having.

Got the belt on after removing the radius arms at the transmission mounts and loosening the crank pulley housing just enough to get the belt to pass. I don't see enough room to hang an extra belt for replacement so I'm just hoping I remember this is 15 years or so. :-)

Thanks for reigning me in SouNdguy.

Glad you got it with the least work.

I didn't want to see ya have to take the entire front end apart for that belt when you can just swing one side enough to squeeze it in.

now lets see some pics of the finished job!
