Someone wants to sell me a 1948 8N. for 2500.00 says motor was rebuilt a few years back and has almost new rubber on it. Paint job is fair he said... also he said has 3 pt hitch and comes with a 6' bush hog blade on back. What can you tell me about this tractor? Good bad.. ??? Are parts hard to get for it?

Great loader. They"ve been making good equipment here in Minnesota for years. But new from the factory it"ll run ya as much as the seller is asking for the N.

Sounds like a deal to me.

Parts are readily available, even right here on this very site, from our hosts.

I would check it out good first.

Maybe someone will post the buying your first tractor for you.

The 6' bush hog, is one foot too much, unless you use it, and use it, when the grass is only 3 or 4 inches high, as to where you want it to be.

Dunk, at least you took it for the joke not like some one else that butted in. I also like my beer at night and some times miss that one important word. Plus I also had one up on you I talked to Larry on the phone 10 minutes before I came on line to see what he had posted

Yep, that rear blade works good on grass, especially if you angle it right. And you won't have to mow it again fer a while, he he!! Just have to clean up the windrows when you finish.

As for the loader, lots of folks do, as for me, it is a bit much to expect from an N tractor.

If you can find a Davis loader, they are a GREAT loader, and won't hurt the tractor, unless you overload and abuse them.

There a good number of brands of loader to fit the N series tractors. Ford at one time made them as did a number of other companys. Larry just drop by some time and drive this 8N I have you you will find you will not like it. Hard to steer if you have any thing in the bucket. Plus it doesn't have live 3 point or live PTO which for what you want a tractor for would not be any good for you. You need to find a 601 or 801 series ford model 661 or 861 which would have both live PTO and HYDS plus could also have power steering

AFAIK, you can still buy NEW a new loader that will fit an "N", perhaps WOODS or Allied/Farm King.

You might want to check with a local dealer that sells small tractors. They can almost certainly find you something that will fit, if they are willing to look/call their suppliers.

In my opinion, the 8N is not a good machine for a front end loader. The front end is not designed for the extra load and it will be VERY hard to steer. I have a Ferguson loader that I took off mine. I would look for a newer tractor if you have to have a loader.

If you only knew how much dirt and gravel I have moved with an 8N and Davis loader, you would re-think that statement.

As I posted before, the "trick" is to "use" and not "abuse the loader/tractor.

We have just purchased a Davis 101 A loader for our 9n Tractor. If anyone knows how to mount this to a 9N I would appreciate an email. My husband and I are not sure how it is to mount. Thank You in Advance. Melanie

Bob,

I agree that loaders are nice to have. For my uses, the loader was more hindrance than help. I have never used a Davis loader, but my Ferguson was not practical for me. I had it on my tractor for about a year. I took it off and have not put it back on since.
