I am currently in the middle of a pump / lift cover rebuild. while inspecting the lift cover I noticed the cam follower pin was badly worn. I drilled it out and have to find a new one, I was wondering is there anything special I need to do or just replace the pin. Do I need to smooth up the area where the pin rides on, it's pretty rough. I am really amazed at how simple this system is but I want to do the job right the first time. I tend to be a little slow I like to study on them for awhile and understand how they actually work. Thanks for your help.

It was really not wise to "drill" the old pin out. If you took out part of the linkage the new pin will never stay put unless you silver solder it in.

If any portion of the cam is left all the way from top to bottom a longer pin will fix it without trying to weld it up.

Or you can use the standard pin and heat and bend the link over enough to cause the pin to cover the cam completely.

I guess I'm at a loss, I just drilled the old one out and plan to press in a new one, I never took anything out. It was a clean drill job everything went well, I drilled through the orginal pin and then used a flat punch and drove it out. Also please post your site so I can order a Jig.

5/16 X 1" dowel pin its a tad big'er around a tad longer and a tad harder to press in but will B long enuff to run on the unworn area.

Yes.. you can build up the cam with brass if it is really worn.

And make sure you backup the linkage when you press the new follower pin in so that you don't bend anything.

I probably would lay some 6013 with a 1/16 or 5/64 rod in my baby arc..on it myself.. however.. as a 'safe' advice, not knowing anyones welding skills.. most people that can sweat solder plumbing fixtures can usually get away with some brass rod and a mapi torch without buggering up to much stuff. in my 'chicken' days that's what i did!
