I'm posting this message for a friend of mine that's trying to restore a 52 Ford 8n. He's got the air cleaner wire with the mesh inside of it out and it's pretty much falling apart. Does anyone sell these or is there something else he can replace the mesh with? I was thinking maybe steel wool that was torn apart and packed inside of the wire cage, but I didn't know if that would be too much to restrict air flow.

The cap on my crankcase breather was missing the wire mesh. I bought kitchen copper scouring pads and unraveled the pad and managed to thread enough through the small holes at its base. These pads are availble in stainless also. May be worth a try if you can't find a regular filter. Regards

NO STEEL WOOL.

Either get the right stuff from the link.. or use stainless steel pot scrubbies.. 3/1$ from the dollar store..

Wow! No Kidding!
Imagine what all those loose metal fibers would do when they get sucked into the engine and then partially melted, burned, etc as they go through everything. Be better off to run with nothing in there than to use steel wool for a temporary fix.

Ten bucks for the right part vs a $1200 rebuild.

Yes , and people who don't think steel will burn, just take a piece of plain steel wool and put a match under it and see how long ye can hold it>>SURPRISE-SURPRISE! !
