I have two rear scoops: a Dearborn that I've restored for shows and parades and a more modern one that I use all of the time. There's not enough time in eternity to tell you all of the things I use it for.

You sure? I have a Ford scoop and it works in both directions. Mine was made in the 70s, I think. I forget the model number. Maybe older ones only worked in one direction. But it sure is handy for everything like moving dirt to hauling firewood. I had 15 tons of chippings dumped at our old house and the guy refused to back down to where I needed it so he dumped it in our side yard and I used the scoop to move it all the other 100 feet. Took a couple of hours but was a lot faster than doing it with a wheelbarrow.

30" works good. As for brand.. Me.. I lok for something fairly cheap. They are pretty much bullet and idiot proof.. and even the economy models are built like tanks. I have the KK 30".. works great and I've moved dozens of CY of dirt with it.

Howse makes a good looking one too.

Also have a KK 30" scoop. Although they can be used both forward and backward, I prefer forward. After a couple of scoops I figured out that a well placed bungy rope and a well placed nylon rope helped in both cutting deeper and releasing or dumping the bucket load while moving forward. This worked much better than the regular setup. Takes about half an hour to become very efficient with the added rope/bungy cord "controls".
