ok fellas, I'm gonna start getting all my items together to change all the fluids on my tractor. question is which fluids, and how much of each?
what type fluids goes in the trans?
what type oil in the engine?

I'm a newbie guys, any good information as to points gaps etc?

I was told that the tractor has had the engine changed at least once in the last 25 years, and that the air filter had never been changed in the last 25 years?? dad gum! I think this ole tractors has found a happy new home..... ..cuz I love to do tune ups and change fluids!!!

Ben,
Go to your local tractor supply store and get yourself the FO-4 manual, a must have, good info. Your going to get lots of replies on lube oils. But here is what I use. 30wt Havolene in the eng, same oil in the air filter cup, TSC has the Ford spec universal trans/hyd/diff fluid. There are three drain plugs, open them all. Fill back up by plug at gear shift lever, 5 gals total, you can do 4 and a piece. The trans/hyd/diff take the same oil all out of one resevoir.

Radiator gets 3 gals of antifreeze
Engine 5 qts of motor oil (original spec 30 Wt)
Air cleaner one pint of engine oil (every 5 hours clean and refil, every 600 hours remove and clean in gasoline)
Transmission 4.5 gals of either M2C134d or 90Wt GL1 (three drain plugs under transmission and rear end -- one fill up next to gear shifter)

generator rear bearing one drop engine oil every 300 hours.

Front distributor points gap .015 (take it off and do it on the bench)

Side mount distributor gap .025

Radiator holds 3 gallons -- 1 1/2 gals Prestone (100% glycol) and 1 1/2 gallons water -- or 3 gallons of the newfangled 50/50 mixture. Don't filler all the way up with 100% glycol.

Oil filter takes a quart, so an oil change takes 6 qts.

Roger brought up a great point.. if that air claner hasn't 'ever' been serviced.. pull it off (easy) and run your favorite solvent thru it.. or soak it. etc. ( diesel fuel.. kerosene.. paint thinner.. naptha.. gasolene.. etc.. )

Theres a few feet of wire mesh that catches gunk.. and it's probably full..

Don't forget to grab a few tubes of cheapy grease while you are at TSC.. and then grease the snot out of the ?7 grease fittings.. that is.. grease the front spindles and rear adjustable lift link till it pushes out the old grease. The front tie rod ends can also be greased like this. The rear draglinks.. if they have intact boots.. just need a pump or two.. or untill the boot starts to show signs of filling ( bulging).

My FNH operators manual lists 8 grease points that need a shot of grease every 10 hours

Right and Left Steering drag links
Right and Left Spindle pins.
Right and left Steering joints
Clutch Pedal.
Leveling box.
