Dave; I have thought about using Rustoleum on my tractor, but was concerned with it durability. Does anyone have any negative feedback on using that kind of paint? I am planning on using a brush and then hitting it with a rattle can spray for a better finish. any thoughts on this?

PS: you have a super good looking tractor.

Ken;
Nice paint job but what the heck is all the 1x 2x and 4 by stacked under that right trumpet?
It looks a tad rickety to me.?? Is that all that is holding it up??

I did this tractor in 1998, brushed with Valspar primer and top coat out of a can. the photo is fall 2003. It has held up fine for me, but this tractor is always shedded too.

Be careful when using aerosol paint over can paint even when both are enamels. I did some color patches on a piece of steel and found several can paints would cause two day old brushed on paint to wrinkle. I would suggest doing the same with whatever paint you want to use. I bought a severely rusted and pitted bushhog three years ago. Sand blasted and painted with red oxide primer and rustoleum top coat using a syphon air sprayer. It has been used and abused and still looks like new if you wipe off the dust and dirt. Kept outside under a minimal tarp cover. I can't complain. That's why I was considering rustoleum for my 8n when I saw how close the color was. Won't know for the long haul for awhile.

WOW! Looks like it just came off the showroom floor. Color looks great. I think you talked me into trying safety red. I can't find any sunset red in rustoleum's current list. Have fun playing and don't forget your rubbers!

tp - I agree, the color Dave used looks great, but if you are looking for "Sunset Red" I don't think you will find it. I think the color you were refering to is "Sunrise Red". I also used it on my 8N and think it looks equally as good. Now the gray I used was Rustoleum Light Olive and that paint color can be pretty hard to find anymore. I've got just enough left for touch up.

Dave,

Have fun. Geez that tractor of yours looks great. Do you keep it inside? Now that I got my tractor starting in the cold all I need is some snow.

Hec

I gotta tell the truth... the paint job is about 3 months old. The guy I got it from said the first thing he did when he got it was paint it. He had it for 15 years and I have had it for 10 years. It was due. I have an old chicken coop that is converted into a shed (I got zoned residential somewhere along the line) and keep it in there with some other toys.

Me and the better half. Pressure washed clean, let it dry overnight. Parked it in the middle of the front yard the next day and we both grabbed paint brushes. One gallon of Rustoleum safty red from Home Depot (we used about half of it) and one quart of Ford gray from TSC. We bought one spray can of red to paint the grill. It took most of the day (including breaks).
