Saw this "PTO Clutch" at the Texas Auction. Talked with 2 Oldtimers there and one said he had only read about them, the other said it was the only second one that he has ever seen!! They said that when the lever is pushed forward, the PTO shaft stops spinning and the implement can be raised (??). The tractor that it was on could not run so a demo could not be made..

Anyone ever seen or heard of these??

It is not a PTO clutch. It is a live PTO clutch. It allows the ground movement of the tractor to be halted while allowing the PTO to continue to turn so that when you are baling hay or useing some other implement that is prone to get over loaded you can let the PTO catch up to the ground speed and the intake of the implement.

On the N tractor it is a mechanical cluth that has been installed in place of the drive coupling between the transmssion and pinion gear of the rear end. NAA and up could be modified with a hydraulic powered LIVE PTO device. The oil clutch was ativated by a lever and the pressure was supplied with a small gear pump driven by the output of the hydraulic pump at the hour meter drive.

It is very rare. I have one that Mike refers to on my Jubilee. But it does not look like the one in the picture. (See pic). I know of only 5 of us that have the one like on my Jubilee.

The difference here is that you can see the hydraulic feed line to mine.

I have been told of a mechanical version. I have never seen a pic of one. Maybe this is it.

Was it on a Jubilee? or maybe a 600? If so, it was a hydraulically run PTO option that was available starting in 53, I believe. Hard to find. I have looked for one for several years. In the meantime, I have gotten used to the mower stopping when I use the clutch.
