Replacing choke spring

I'm attempting to replace a broken choke spring on my '51 8N. According to the manual, you just remove two screws holding the choke plate to the choke rod and pull the rod out of the body to make the replacement.

Screws are removed and rod will move slightly, but will not come out of the body. Is there something else to be removed, or should I just pull harder?

Thanks for the help..... John A

I'd check to see if the internal spring is hung on anything, like a barb. There should be two springs; one inside the throat and one outside the carb body. I think you might have to remove both. Somewhere on this site is an article about carb rebuilding and you might be able to look at the pictures in the article to give you a better view and determine whether or not something might be hung. It is also possible that you have worn grooves in the choke rod and that is all that is hanging up. Let us know what you find.

John..... ..I'm gonna assume that you've removed the choke plate outta the choke shaft. Sometimes the screw attach holes get stretched and need a little file dressing to beable to slide the shaft outta the carb body..... ...Dell
