Ford 8N vs. King Kutter

I just got a King Kutter 5 foot finish mower for my Ford 8N, BUT, as a newbie, I don't know how to hook this up.

The King Kutter has no diagrams as to which bit goes where, nor do I have dox's for the 52 8N.

Is there anywhere or anyone who knows step by simple step how to attach and make work this mower?

Thanks in advance!

You got an ORC? If not (or you don't know what it is) you need it.
Dell can tell you why :-)

The manual is on their website. I've found this company to be very accomadating. I have a 6 footer.

Take Care

Is this a brand-new mower? If so, can you exchange it for a 6-footer? (That's the one I use on my 2N with no problems -- plenty of power to run the mower.)

Also, if it is a new mower, check under the belt cover for the owner's manual. Or you can download an owner's manual from King Kutter's web site.

The mower isn't hard to connect to the tractor. The lower links are pretty obvious as is the upper link. The chain on the upper link may need to be adjusted to have sufficient slack to allow the mower to track the ground when you approach a hill.

As for the PTO -- well, unless your 8N has been given a new PTO shaft at some point, you'll need an adapter. These are available at most farm stores. You also may need to shorten the PTO shaft on the mower.

DOwnloaded the manual, problem is, it doesn't tell you how to hook it up.

How would I know if I needed to shorten the PTO shafton the mower?

I think I can see how the lower arms fit, but do they go on the inside of the mower or on the outside of the hookup point?

ANy details would be much appreciated.

Also, what is the maximum height of grass that can be tackled with this, it has been about two weeks since last woming and I am starting to get seed on some of it, will this cut that?

BILL, PLEASE BE SURE YOU HAVE AN ORC OR YOU WILL PUSH IN THE CLUTCH AND THE TRACTOR WILL KEEP GOING FROM THE FORCE OF THE BLADES STILL TURNING. AS FOR THE HOOH-UP, YOU WILL NEED TO TAKE ABOUT 3-4 INCHES OFF EACH END OF THE SHAFT. I TOOK MINE TO A LOCAL HIGH SCHOOL AND HAD THE FFA BOY'S CUT IT FOR FREE WITH A HYDRO CUTTER. GO TO A TRACTOR DEALER AND GET A SET OF MOWER DECK STABLIZER CHAINS (ABOUT $25.00)THIS WILL KEEP YOUR DECK WHERE YOU SET IT CAUSE IF YOU DON'T, YOU WILL BE FIGHTING THE MOWING HEIGHT THE ENTIRE TIME YOU ARE MOWING(MUST HAVE). AS FOR THE TOP LINK, IT DOESND NEED TO BE TIGHT,YOU CAN LEAVE A LITTLE PLAY TO GIVE IT ROOM TO FLEX. THE ONLY THING THE TOP LINK WILL DO WITH THE DECK CHAINS ON IS TO KEEP THE MOWER FROM FLIPPING OVER ON YOUR HEAD IF YOU HIT A STUMP OR SOMETHING. THE 2 LIFT ARMS AND 2 STABLIZER BARS GO TO THE 2 LIFT PINS ON THE MOWER. HOPE THIS HELPS.

You don't need limiter chains with the 8N. It has position control, 2N's and 9N'2 don't.

Try the pto shaft after installing the ORC, you may not need to shorten the shaft.

The ORC may not be necessary with the finish mower but is absolutely mandatory with a bush hog type mower, won't hurt to use with the finish mower.
