I just purchased the tractor and the regulator would only charge when I pushed the relays in on the regulator.I then noticed that the 6-volt battery was at negative ground. It has all original parts ( generator, starter etc.) but the regulator has been changed and the coil wires reversed. It was actually charging in reverse. I have reverse the polarity on the generator and switched the battery poles, It will run for a few minutes(not charging) then cut out. I am going to try tommorrow to reverse the coil wires also but that won't help the charging system any. I can not find on the net a wiring diagram anywhere for this tractor and the vintage tractor site diagram is down.I am dumfounded and tired and should of payed more attention to my Father's electrical training as a boy. Please help. Thank you Robert M Peternell ps: Trator was sold to me as a 53 but other sites say different, I believe 1955.

Robert, Follow up on my last responce to your search for a wiring diagram for your Ford tractor. Go to ( Nseries.com ) web site. Under Maintenance click on wiring diagrams, then scroll down to the bottom of the page and there is a wiring diagram for a NAA/Golden Jubilee tractor. My 600 is the same only two years newer. Robert, I own a 1955 Ford 600 series tractor. If your tractor is a 1953 it is the first of the 600 series tractors and will have a large nut on the outside of the rear axle to hold the rear hub on and the lug bolts will be in the hub. As far as I know, it was the only year of the 600 series that had that type of rear axle, but please don't quote me on that. All the rest of the 600s had a flanged axle with the lug bolts in the axle flange. My tractor was converted to 12 volts years ago and as I am restoring it to original, I'm converting it back to 6 volts. I don't have a wiring diagram for it yet. As to your problem, Ford had a habit back in the 40s and 50s of using a positive ground on all of their cars and trucks. That tells me that it is very possible that their tractors used the same system. If you ever find out where a wiring diagram can be had, I sure would like to know. If I find one, I'll Let you know. Let's keep the Fords rolling.
