I have heard that Don Oliver's dealership made 3 Stuttgarts as a kind of experiment into the large horsepower 4WD market. The MM factory picked up on the idea and made 16, for a total of only 19. However, I have also heard that an unknown number were pieced together by MM dealerships for customers who wanted one of their own. I believe the ones made by the dealerships were spliced together from two G tractors and other parts, basically whatever was on hand. I think somewhere between 25-30 is a good estimate of how many were made in total, but it is hard to tell, as the Stuttgarts were largely undocumented, especially the ones pieced together at dealerships. For all we know there could be many more of these brutes hiding away in barns out there.

Note: Someone correct me if I am wrong on this!

What is a Stuttgart special. Is that the 4WD in the center of the picture? Can anybody
provide more information and pictures? I have a couple of early 4WD's built in Il. in 1959 and 1960. Armand

I looked the stuttgart special over this morning while I was there, it is in excellent condition and a rare bird to boot. a couple years ago one of the Stuttgart specials without a cab and in its work clothes brought $13000. These will sell on Saturday.

Yes, it is the big yellow 4wd in the picture. Don Oliver who had a MM dealership in Stuttgart years ago built 3 "stuttgart specials" with cummins engines . Someone from MM saw one and they took one to MM factory and decided to build a few. I forget the number but think it was 20 some or 30 some and I believe they all had LP engines. This one is a factory built one. Someone else probably knows more about this than me and I wish they would add to this. I will be there Saturday, Want me to buy it for ya ? lol.

I would be content to have six or eight pictures of it and know what it sold for. Looks like they did a nice job building it. Did Stuttgart build any thing else? Also off topic what-ever happen to the Paul Abbot Co.? They used to make 3pt. hitches and I think they where from Ark. Please send me an Email. I think I would like a picture or two that I could frame. Did these tractor have 3 PT hitches? Thankyou for your reply. Armand

I knew it would be far (from MN). The lack of snow should have told me that!

Don Oliver's Dealership in Stuttgart,AR built 33 4wd tractors that were built from U rearends and 6cly power units. the earlier tractors had a cude chain steering system, kinda like a waterloo boy. Oliver also built 3 stuttgart specials with 220 cummins engines in them for one farmer. Barrett tractor salvage in Aubrey,AR bought all three of them from their original owner. They sold one at the backgate auction two years ago. they still have one on their yard that can be bought for $15k and the other is still sitting in the farmer's shed with the engine out of it. It can be bought for $10k. The one on this year's auction is owned and restored by John Krufus from just north of Brinkley,AR. He saved it from salvage a few years ago. There is still a few ole "Stuttgart Specials" still around Stuttgart....
